- Tinky Winky: "Dipsy pill the Tubby Kustard?"
- Dipsy: "No."
- Tinky Winky: "No??"
- — Tinky Winky and Dipsy
Tinky Winky is the first Teletubby whom is famous for his t-shaped triangle that is shaped like a filter funnel, hence the name 'Tinky Winky'. His favourite object is a red purse, in which he calls the purse "Tinky Winky Bag". He loves to carry it around and fill it with interesting items—just like children. In the Teletubbies' Dome he sleeps on the far left side. He is a great "big man" who can use his initiative to solve problems. Tinky Winky may be a giant among children but he's also very gentle.
He is a driver on the Tubby Transit Authority which runs to the Space Centre. Tinky Winky might be afraid of The Scary Lion as in the original sketch when the Lion was first introduced and he could have screamed. He is involved quite a lot with the audience in Teletubbies. He is notable for the red luggage (described by the show as a bag or "magic bag", but often described by other media as a handbag or purse) he always carries. His character has caused controversy due to allegations that his character's behavior, bag and body color have homosexual qualities.
He is also very enthusiastic about boats. He is bilingual like Po, speaking English and Bulgarian. He knows not to be scared of spooky stuff that happens because astronauts high above track everything in Teletubbyland and the Teletubbies can speak to them in person on secret screens hidden inside their beds, where they speak to American and European astronauts when worried or frightened or in a bad mood. He also reacts to the e.Coli scare in Australia, Canada, Japan and Spain, from non-contaminated fruits that make even Fruit Salad look safe to eat.
Tinky Winky is the oldest and biggest Teletubby, as he is 10 feet tall and he is purple. He is mature and intelligent even though he still speaks the same as the other Teletubbies. He likes walking, marching, dancing, singing his own special Tinky Winky song and falling over. He maybe has a crush on Po. Tinky Winky is very partial to Big Hugs. He is voiced by Dave Thompson, Mark Heenahan and Simon Shelton.
